摘要

The instrumented indentation technique (IIT) has been widely used to evaluate mechanical properties because of such advantages as small scale specimens, localized testing section, and simple test procedures. We introduce the theoretical model by which tensile properties, residual stress and fracture toughness may be derived from the indentation load-depth curve measured by an indenter. Experimental results with common steels were compared with values from tensile testing, conventional residual test and conventional fracture test. The value from IIT showed good agreement with those from conventional testing.
