Causes of Road Crashes on African Roads – Nigerian Roads as a Case Study

The paper attempts to look into the causes of road crashes leading todeaths on African roads with Nigeria, Bode Saadu as a case study. BodeSaadu falls along the major highway linking the Southern Seaports with theNorthern part of the country. This road has been listed as one of the 23 mostdangerous roads in the world. The paper also enumerates and explainscauses of accident in the country especially along Bode Saadu – Jebba –Mokwa road. It also looks at the establishment of the Federal Road SafetyCommission as the Federal Government lead agency and its profferedsolution and resolve to reduce the occurrence of road traffic crash and itsseverity through the use of the 6E’s – intervention strategies approach anexpansion of the traditional 3E’s approach . The road factor remains animportant issue in road safety in Nigeria.
