SUPER Hi-VISION Projectors Used in Public Viewing of London 2012 Olympics

NHK hosted SUPER Hi-VISION (SHV) public viewings of the London 2012 Olympics in Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States in cooperation with the Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). SHV is a next-generation broadcasting system we have been developing to provide viewers with a high sense of presence. SHV is composed of high-resolution images with 7680 × 4320 pixels and three-dimensional 22.2 multichannel sound. Two types of SHV projectors were used in accordance with the screen size of each public viewing site: a full-resolution projector and a compact projector. This paper describes the outline of the public viewings and the features of SHV projectors.
