We investigated the reading experience made possible by using an iPad e-book reader with sound effects. We examined the differences when reading an e-book with sound effects versus without sound effects by psychological assessment using the Semantic Differential (SD) method and physiological assessment using the NIRS device. The results demonstrated that sound effects included with e-book content can influence readers' psychological and physiological reactions.
