Applying Road Traffic Probe Data Obtained by ITS Spots to Road Management

Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) have developed a RoadTraffic Probe Data collecting system. The system is able to collect Road Traffic Probe Data(vehicle latitude, longitude, time stamps and acceleration) by using ITS spots (RSU: RoadSide Unit) from ITS spot-compatible car navigation systems (OBE: On-Board Equipment)and Road Traffic Probe Data have been collecting since 2011. To use Road Traffic Probe Datapractically, several applications have been examined for road management use, such asinformation sharing tool during disaster and project assessment tool by expecting the diverseutilization forms of road administrators etc. Further, a prototype of the utilization system ofRoad Traffic Probe Data had been structured which was trialed by road administrators. Thenthe future direction based on the opinions of the road administrators in relation has beenclarified.
