Variational mesh segmentation algorithm is a parametric method that used for optimum segmentation of 3D mesh models. The main disadvantage of this method, which limits its application, is the time-consuming problem and need for user's initial settings. Methods that use for selection of initial proxy elements and where to add new regions after each step of convergence are completely significant in these drawbacks. In the most previous algorithms, after initial segmentation, the value of local approximation error of each region is the only parameter that specifies location of new regions. In this paper, by employing the fuzzy system, new method for approximation of number of proxy elements and location of them has been proposed, with considering distribution and value of local approximation error for each region, and area of them. It has been observed that the obtained results have remarkable improvements relative to the results from the previous algorithms.
