摘要

Hydroxyapatite (HA), a prototype of minerals of bones and teeth, attracts increasing interest in medicine and dentistry. The apatite crystal structure can accommodate a wide variety of atomic substitutions which gives apatite crystals an unusually high degree of variability in biochemical and physical properties. Due to the good biocompatibility of HA, it is usually synthesized chemically and served as the bone graft clinically. However, compared with natural minerals in bone extracellular matrix (ECM), synthesized HA is usually difficult to be integrated with bone tissues in vivo. Moreover, clinical case which has emprically documented the osteoconinduction effects of HA is scant. The improvement of synthesized HA is necessary for clinical uses.
