Characterization of Porous PEEK for Musculoskeletal Applications

The yield strengths of porous PEEK 1 and 2 materials of 5.9 and 9.0 MPa are sufficient for load bearing applications in bone reconstruction, when coupled with ancillary fixation or other means of strengthening such as hybrid solid PEEK / porous PEEK structures. The permeability of the porous PEEK materials is similar to that reported for dense human cancellous bone.
