The nature of phenotypic alteration of cell types in Polyethylene terephthalate fabric induced reaction in rabbit muscle
In this study we present evidence based on immunohistochemistry for PCNA, CD34, vimentin and α-SMA that rhabdomyocytes are amenable to phenotypic alteration during the healing response triggered by implanted PET in skeletal muscle. Foreign body giant cells as shown by vimentin and PCNA, are not a single population but composed of subpopulations with differential proliferative efficiency.
