A novel remotely triggered drug vehicle, CHC/FePt micelle, was developed to encapsulate hydrophobic agent, exhibit ultrasonically triggered release behavior, demonstrate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast and ultrasound-induced MRI contrast change. Preliminary study showed that CHC acted as a micelle-forming molecule which could stabilize the self-assembly structure of nanospheres. In addition, the extent of background leakage was decreased while FePt nanoparticles were incorporated. On the other hand, it was found that a prominent ultrasound-triggered release behavior could be observed for the CHC/FePt micelles. Moreover, the CHC/FePt micelles demonstrated MRI T2 contrast which could be altered after ultrasound bombardment.
