Shorea robusta terpenoids: A novel biological compounds for the effective treatment of chronic wound

As per the traditional claims dry distillate oil of S.robusta was reported to have wound healing activity, while in our study it was observed that Form-Ill (oil + triterpenoids) showed maximum activity. Similarly, the said activity is due to rapid angiogenesis at the wound site with rapid maturation of collagen taken place with inter and intra molecular cross links, hence the tensile strength was increased. The same was concluded with estimation of hydroxyproline, collagen and histopathological study. The said activity of the resin is due to asiatic acid as it is found as major constituents of terpenoid mixture. Hence, it can be concluded that triterpenoids of S.robusta has possibility of great scope to use specifically in diabetic feet and other chronic wounds. We are presently working on developing trans-dermal patches and suture coated with S.robusta terpenoids and clinical testing on human volunteers.
