The increase in blood vessel density and improved wounds healing observed with MAA beads is associated with the increased expression of Shh, Gli3 and other pro-angiogenic factors (PDGFb, IL-1β, IL-6) in diabetic wound tissue, compared to PMMA and untreated wounds.
