The data to date suggests that methacrylated gellan gum has properties that make it an ideal candidate for the replacement of the nucleus pulposus within the IVD. It is biocompatible and appears to inhibit the formation of tubules and migration of cells while allowing the cells to remain viable for up to 4 weeks in-vitro. It allows the differentiation of hBMSCs into chondrocytic cells and appears to inhibit the differentiation of HUVEC cells.
