Embryoid bodies derived from iPS cells can be successfully cultured inside of 3D fibrin scaffolds and differentiate into neurons in this culture system, demonstrating their potential for neural tissue engineering applications. This work serves as a starting point for more extensive investigation and we are currently quantifying these observations through the use of quantitative PCR and flow cytometry. Future work will investigate the use of growth factors to further enhance iPS cell differentiation and quantitatively characterizing these results.
