The minimum amount of steel between battened and lace bar columns under axial compression in stability condition of both strong and weak axis were compared and analyzed, and the stable economic conditions for application of two components were obtained. The formulas in the minimum amount of two kinds of steel columns under axial compression were derived. Section and spacing of double limbs, effective length of both strong and weak axis, size and spacing of batten plate, axial pressure, section and assigned angle of lace bar were taken as variable parameters. The minimum steel consumption of two lattice columns was obtained. The correlation between the ratio of minimum steel consumption of two lattice columns and three factors including slenderness ratio, axial pressure as well as effective length has been given. The results show that ratio minimum amount of steel was directly proportional to column slenderness ratio, and inversely proportional to design value of axis pressure. Fitting of boundary conditions of two components are obtained by making steel consumption equal, providing a reference for engineering design.
