TECHNOLOGICAL DEMANDS: A SIMPLIFIED IDENTIFICATION METHOD FOR INDUSTRIAL SECTORS IN BRAZIL

Considering a country like Brazil, where R&D expenditures are lower then those in USA, European countries or even South Korea, the technological supply system (universities, labs, technical centers) acquires an important dynamic role. To reduce the existing technological gap, the national system of innovation must be aware of the actual industrial trends and needs (technological demands). This paper aims to show an easy simplified method for the identification of technological demand in order to propose general innovation opportunities and effective problem solving paths. From this information, policy and industrial projects can be focused on real technological needs. This paper will summarize the first results of a research program made to identify technological demands of three industrial sectors (electronic, chemical, agro-industrial) in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul.
