EXPLORING GREEN SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT BASED ON SOCIAL CAPITAL PERSPECTIVES

Environmental issues are increasingly being paid attention to globally with the most advanced countries progressively formulating related directives and laws for standardization. Under the pressure of green waves, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are required to use the resources owned to devote aggressively to green supply chain management in order to improve management performance and business competitive advantage. This study referred to social capital perspectives to explore whether Taiwanese electrical and electronic SMEs could advance practices of green supply chain management and improve green management performance with the aid of structural dimension, relational dimension and cognitive dimension from social capital. The questionnaire was adopted by this study, and objects were sampled from electrical and electronic SMEs located in Taiwan. We discovered that the three constructs of social capital did impact enterprises on their environmental management practices and influenced different types of green supply chain risks and green supply chain management performance. In order to comply with international environmental directives and regulations on product services rapidly, SMEs needed to rely on mutual cooperation among supply chain partners. The contribution of this study is to construct the theoretical models of social capital and green supply chain management, and it is empirically proven that SMEs can use their social networks to improve their green supply chain management performance.
