The aim of this study was to measure the concentration of beta2-microglobulin (B2M) in the spent dialysate using optical method utilizing fluorescence spectra of the spent dialysate. Eight uremic patients from Linkoping were studied during their three dialysis treatments in one week at the Department of Dialysis and Nephrology at Linkoping University Hospital. Dialysate samples were taken during each treatment and analyzed, B2M concentration was measured in laboratory, and fluorescence spectra was measured with spectrofluoropho-tometer. The fluorescence spectral values were transformed into B2MG concentration using regression model from total material noted as fluorescence method (F). Achieved results were compared regarding mean values and SD.Mean value of B2M measured in laboratory was 1.71±1.0 mg/1 and by F 1.72±0.9 mg/1. Concentrations were not significantly different (p≤0,05).This study indicates that it is possible to estimate the concentration of B2M using only fluorescence values of the spent dialysate.
