GPS-based monitoring of Aberdeen Beach has been carried out to assess the performance of new coastal defence works comprising beach nourishment fronted by nearshore rock structures. Measurements of beach elevation were obtained before the beach was nourished and at intervals of between 2 and 4 weeks post nourishment, yielding a very detailed dataset containing the morphological evolution of the nourished beach. Detailed and frequent measurements have also been obtained for areas of the beach to the north and south of the nourished area, enabling useful comparison between the dynamics of the nourished and un-nourished areas.
