Reliability analysis of breakwater armour blocks of harbours in Korea

The reliability analyses were performed for the armour blocks of rubble mound breakwaters in the trade and coastal harbours in Korea. It was found that the probability of failure within 50-year lifetime is about 60% for the Tetrapod armours designed with the safety factor of 1.0, which is the criterion of the deterministic design method. The corresponding annual probability of failure is about 2%.
