Restoration of St. Catherine's Breakwater Roundhead, Jersey, Channel Islands

St. Catherine's Breakwater is situated at the eastern end of the Island of Jersey in the English Channel. The breakwater was conceived during the Napoleonic War as part of a harbour to form a series of harbours to blockade the French Fleet but was only constructed in the 1850's. The southern arm of the harbour from Archirondel was never completed and therefore the completion of the northern arm of the harbour at St. Catherine's, some 600m long, has been viewed as an expensive engineering "folly" of that era.
