This paper deals with the characteristics of tool wear in micro ball-end milling with a high-speed spindle. In order to investigate the characteristics of flank wear, cutting tests on hardened stainless steel were carried out with ball-end mills having radii of 100μm and 500μm and a spindle speed ranging from 40 000 to 120 000min~(-1). The test results showed the maximum width of flank wear decreased with an increase in the spindle speed for each end mill. It was also found that the cutting force component in the feed direction decreased with an increase in the spindle speed.
