IS THERE A CORRECT-ANSWER-POSITION CUE IN MULTIPLE-CHOICE QUESTIONS?

Tests, generally, are intended to yield valid measures. Validity achieved, of course, may be affected by a host of factors. For multiple-choice question tests, artifacts of the questions themselves-beyond the essential question content-may provide cues to examinees, those cues compromising validity, i.e., an examinee's response being to some extent a function of cues rather than purely a function of his or her knowledge. This research seeks to detect a possible cue based on the position of the correct option among all options presented.
