Engineering projects often require soil stiffness values at small strain and their variation with strain levels. Information can be based on empirical relationships or obtained from advanced testing. The paper reviews various degradation relationships. Results from investigations located towards the edge of the London Clay Formation basin are given where the soils comprised sandy clay. Marked differences were found compared to information published for the more plastic facies of the Formation.
