"Fostering 'Buy-Quiet' Purchasing Attitudes: the Role of Simplified Product Noise Ratings" was the title of the first I-INCE Symposium of the new series held in Paris 2011 July 5 and 6. The talk will summarize the forty presentations and discussion periods held during the following topical sessions: 1. Providing information on product noise emissions 2. Tailoring product noise information to different purchasing groups and different product types 3. How information on low-noise products can boost market share and profitability for manufacturers 4. Encouraging all purchasers to "buy-quiet" 5. Roles stakeholders can play in encouraging the use of product noise ratings and fostering "buy-quiet" attitudes This paper was prepared two months before the Symposium was held and thus will only bring information on Background, Objectives, and Provisional Programme. During the INTER-NOISE session, a synthesis of presentations and discussions will be given.
