Heterogeneous multi-component materials, including porous media, have extensive industrial applications, spanning from the composite manufacturing industry, general new material industry, chemical process industry, and food industry to the information technology and new energy technology. Thermal design/control of devices/systems involving a heterogeneous multi-component material requires the pre-determination of the effective thermal conductivity (ETC, sometimes referred as apparent thermal conductivity).
