A new joint Task of IEA Technological Collaboration Programmes PVPS and SolarPACES started in July 2017 and will last till 2020. 21 countries and 54 partners are part of the Task. Many existing partners of IEA SHC Task 46 like NREL or Mines Paristech are part but also new partners - like the Swedish met service SMHI or Energinet (TSO of Denmark). In 2018 two workshops where held to get basic information about uncertainty of resources and forecast needs. The results will be shown in this paper. The Task offers a unique platform of exchange for private and public organizations as well as data providers and science organizations. A strong emphasis on extra gain of collaboration will be promoted. Benchmarks, standardizations, state-of the art descriptions and dissemination will be in the focus. Main added values are: lower resource uncertainties and higher forecast accuracies, which will lead to lower implementation costs of PV and CSP projects. The first year was used to gather basic information for benchmarks and user needs. Two workshops where held of which the results will be presented. The first workshop (March 2018) was dedicated to the definition of uncertainty in dependence of climate. Up to now uncertainty information was presented differently by each service providers. A common way of definition would help the users to compare the services. The second workshop was held at Intersolar June 2018 to get requirements concerning solar and PV forecasts for different applications. A focus was set to utilities and grid operation. Enhanced knowledge of user needs will enhance the service.
