摘要

A novel photovoltaic off-grid system concept has to be designed to power rural and remote schools according to the technical and economic specifications of the new distance education programme in Mexico. Rural and far-flung communities, from which more than 100,000 have less than 100 inhabitants, are scattered in vast distances with very difficult access. The challenge for PV off-grid systems is to operate in such a way that mainly enhances: 1) a longer life for the PV system and system components, 2) a good performance ratio, and 3) to be free of faults as much as possible. Additionally, where diesel engines are operated, PV systems may also contribute to the substitution of the diesel engines and to the reduction of fossil fuel consumption. Besides electricity supply standards, the integration of communication technologies will contribute to the success of the distance education programs. Bi-directional delivery of information will allow for academic and cultural exchange. On-line consultation and school will contribute at the same time for the monitoring of the PV systems in order to guarantee the well functioning, to prevent failures and to provide spare parts in the case of break downs or others.
