Biomass is expected to be traded in considerable amounts in the future. This implies substantialamounts of biomass materials and products need to be transported and handled. As a logistical hub, a large-scalebiomass bulk terminal can be used to handle and store biomass. However, despite numerous studies and research inthe biomass domain, so far little work has been done from the point of view of terminal design and material handling.In addition, due to the lack of information transparency, the logistical flow related issues of biomoass (e.g. arrivalpattern, modal split, stock management strategy) are unknown. This paper presents the quantitative flow properties ofbiomass, and a simulation model that can be used to assist in the terminal design in terms of logstic flows.
