@@ Introduction Agronomic bio fortification is reported to be an effective method to increase selenium (Se) concentration in the edible portion of crops and hence increase dietary intake of Se (Lyons et al., 2005; Broadley et al., 2010). However, there is a need to investigate the fate of the applied Se within the soil-plant system (Keskinen et al., 2009). It is difficult to unambiguously resolve a 'plant-available' Se pool using chemical extraction of soils, or distinguish between uptake of Se from soil and fertiliser sources in field experiments.
