This paper discusses the design, construction, and testing of a proof-of-concept engine to demonstrate the possibility of converting heat energy into mechanical energy by utilizing sound waves. The goal of the project was to design, build and test a thermo acoustic engine. Pro Engineer was used in order to create individual components as well as to create a Pro E assembly. Drawings of the individual components were made in Pro Engineer according to which the components were machined in the machine shop. Design calculations which were performed to design the components are also shown. The field of thermo acoustics is a relatively new field in engineering. Future suggestions for improvement of thermo acoustic engine design are described also as well as suggestions for testing of some of the individual components which can improve the efficiency of the thermo acoustic engine.
