Statistical properties of the diffraction intensities measured by a capillary specimen transmission method using synchrotron x-ray source were investigated. Several thousands of statistically independent intensity data are available by recording diffraction intensities measured on stepwise rotation of the capillary spinner attachment. In order to examine the ability of an analytical method to evaluate the crystallite size distribution, mix tures of quartz powder with similar average but different variance in crystallite size distribu tion were prepared. It has been confirmed that the skewness of the observed intensity distri bution becomes larger for mixtures with broader crystallite size distribution, which suggests that broadness of the crystallite size distribution can be evaluated by statistical analysis of the observed diffraction intensities.
