Certain results of numerical simulations obtained by the use of the SpectralFinite Element Method (SFEM) are presented by the authors. They are selected inorder to show the effectiveness of the SFEM for investigation of various problemsassociated with propagation of guided elastic waves in shell-type aircraft structuralelements. In this paper a section of the helicopter stabilizer is investigated. Resultsof these simulations are subsequently evaluated in order to detect and localizesimulated damage and compared against results of experimental measurements bythe use of laser scanning vibrometry.
