Reduction in the cost of making PM sintered parts can be achieved by the use of flexible sintering furnaces that employ more than one type of part transport system like walking beam, pusher, rollers & belt. Such furnaces would consume less atmosphere gas, and suffer lower recurring cost on account of thin wall stainless steel trays that would replace more expensive wire mesh belts. Such furnaces can be equipped with pressure gas quenching modules with a higher heat extraction rate than is presently available in mesh belt sintering furnaces and this would enable the use of leaner alloy powder.
