The cNODE Network is a new technology for wireless underwater sensor networks, employing acoustic communication to realize wireless functionality in water. Research and development has been carried out in the last 4 years. A final sea demonstration of the system was carried out at Breiangen in the Oslo fjord, on December 3-4 2009. The result is a fully operative network system available for water depths down to 4000m. The sensor network can be used to transmit data over long distances and in difficult topography where data is relayed thorough cNODE transponders in the network. The network cNODE transponders can be set up to monitor sensors and report data back to shore via satellite communication. Application s for this type of data transmission include remote well information for oil and gas, environmental monitoring data, military applications, remote sensor and hub data gathering, weather warnings, relayed position data, remote commands to subsea instrumentation, AUV data relays and many ore.
