Innovative combination of different work technoliges to affect the underwater repair of a DOT oil transmission pipeline riser inside of the leg of a platform in Alaska
In the Spring of 2010, a location on an oil transmission riser inside of a platform leg in Cook Inlet, Alaska was repaired to DOT specifications. The repair location had been identified through a smart pigging operation. The repair location was very difficult to access, was submerged in the water, and buried under sediment. An innovative combination of diving and remote access technologies were used to gain access to the site. Specially engineered equipment systems were designed and assembled to create access to the site, remediate any threat of pollution, and dewater and unbury the location. This paper outlines the developed procedures, equipment, and combination of access technologies that were utilized to make the project a success.
