Water or alcohol dispersible magnetic nanoparticles allowed new opportunities for various biomedical applications as contrast agents for magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic field guided drug delivery, tumor treatment via hyperthermia and biomolecular separation and diagnostic imaging. Especially in drug delivery applications, drug transport through magnetic nanoparticles has been widely studied in an attempt to obtain particles with high carrier capacity of drugs, good stability in aqueous solutions, good biocompatibility with cells and tissues, among others. In this context, in mis work, chemically synthesized magnetite nanoparticles (via the modified sol-gel processing), with different sizes, were obtained through heat treatments. Magnetic, structural (X-ray diffraction), microstructural (scanning electron microscopy) and cells toxicity properties of nanoparticles are carefully investigated.
