The ultrafine powder (<400 mesh) content of ball millproduct has a great influence on the carbon anode quality.Experiments based on the aggregate recipe and raw materialof an aluminum carbon anode plant in China have beenconducted. The ultrafine powder was separated from the ballmill product by screening. On the premise of unchangedpowder purity and content, anode samples with differentultrafine powder content were prepared and the propertieswere analyzed. Ultrafine powder materials were characterizedby Blaine Number and BET specific area. Results showedthat good electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity andair/CO_2 reactivity behavior could be obtained with lowultrafine powder content (3100~4000 Blaine, 2.510-3.734m2/g specific area). Anode properties such as baked densityand air permeability were closely related with the ultrafinepowder content and the Blaine value of powder material. Theresults can be used to optimize the properties of carbonanode.
