Development of intercooled turbofan engines, which are effective for improving fuel consumption and decreasing emissions, is making progress. Potential benefits of intercooled engines are studied based on model intercoolers. Parametric study was conducted to understand the influences of intercooler design parameters such as size, weight, effectiveness and pressure loss upon the engine performance. In addition, a prototype intercooler was designed to demonstrate manufacturability of unique obliquely stacked cross corrugate configuration. The pressure proof capability of the core has been also confirmed.
