Effect of the ratio of cavity length to width (L/W) on the unsteadiness induced in flow due to the presence of wall mounted three dimensional cavities in supersonic flow is presented. Unsteadiness in the flow has been characterized by pressure oscillations and the wave and shear layer structure occurring in flow. Dependence of pressure oscillations on cavity width is evident from the results obtained. Time averaged and time resolved flow visualization showed variation in shear layer structure with cavity width. Chaotic effect inside the cavity at the leading and trailing edge were also observed to depend on the cavity width.
