Experiments are described which address the effect of vane clocking on the resonant response of an integrally bladed rotor (IBR) in the Purdue Transonic Research Compressor which features a 1 ? stage axial-flow geometry. For this IBR, the forcing function consists of the IGV wakes and the potential fields from the IGVs and stators, and their aerodynamic interactions, with the 2nd bend mode near 17,000 RPM critical with regard to resonant response vibrations. First the structural mistuning of the IBR is measured. Experiments are then performed utilizing an Agilis NSMS (Nonintrusive Stress Measurement System) to quantify the effect of clocking the IGVs relative to the stators on the resonant response of the IBR. The data show high responding individual blades on the rotor, i.e. the effect of mistuning on resonant response, and also demonstrate the viability of vane clocking for passive control of resonant response.
