THE ANALYSIS OF CITY LIGHTS ON DMSP/OLS DATA USING DIGITAL TELOPHONE DATA

摘要

This study analyzes the relationships between city lights data in DMSP/OLS imagery and actual urban activity using digital yellow page data in order to check the possibility that DMSP imagery can be used to observe the extent of urban areas. Unlike existing statistics , Yellow page data is unaffected by the count unit or the updating cycle of data. Both data are resampled into 1 kilo meter square grids. Considering number of telephone registration in yellow page data as an indicator of the extent of urban areas, the correlation is analyzed. In this paper, the availability of DT as a supervised data of calibration is also considered.
