In this paper, a new method is proposed to perform direction of arrival (DOA) estimation when coherent sources mixtures are present. Fast independent component analysis (FastICA) algorithm is first used to estimate generalized steering matrix. Then, spatial smoothing technique (SST) is adopted to remove the permutation indeterminacy of the estimated matrix. Finally, the DOAs of the coherent signals in each group can be estimated separately by using classical high-resolution algorithms. Unlike most existing methods, even some DOAs in different coherent groups are the same, the proposed method is still performs well. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method is effective.
