Marine Structures and Operations for a Future Safe and Sustainable Use of the Oceans

摘要

This paper describes current trends and expected future changes regarding the life cycle assessment of marine structures and operations. The oceans are the most important reservoir of resources and the key to resolving the climate problem. Therefore, they need to be managed in a sustainable manner. Marine structures and operations are needed for transport, exploitation of subsea hydrocarbons and wave energy, sea food production and marine infrastructure. The main purpose of this paper is to demonstrate the many opportunities that exist for developing new structures and operational procedures, devising rational methods to handle new technology and addressing the corresponding needs for research and development.
