Dynamic compaction method was widely used in foundation consolidation all over the world as it is a simple and cheap method. Recently, the vibration effect on the adjacent structures due to the dynamic compaction was highlighted. Based on 207 vibration records recorded in-situ during the consolidation of foundation by the method of dynamic compaction, the peak attenuation rules on the vertical and horizontal direction (PGA and PGV with the horizontal distance between the recording point and the dynamic compaction point) were analyzed. It was shown that the peak attenuation rules of PGA and PGV accorded with the exponent attenuation rule. Furthermore, the energy grade of ground vibration was calculated. Referring to the Ambient Vibration Criterion in Urban Area, the ambient vibration of the ground due to dynamic compaction was evaluated. The energy grade of environmental vibration due to dynamic compaction was much greater than the coded value in an urban area. Finally, the dynamic responses of a three-storey and a six-storey building were analyzed when excited by the recorded acceleration history of ground vibration due to dynamic vibration. It was noticed that the vibration energy grade of building floor was much higher than the coded value, although the structure was safe against the ground vibration. The influence on the environment and building vibration induced by dynamic compaction was negligible and needed to be paid more attention.
