In order to investigate the seismic behavior of high strength steel frames and provide references for the seismic design of this kind of frames,nonlinear finite element analysis of high strength steel frames is carried out with the finite element software ANSYS,in which both the geometric and material nonlinearities are considered. The mechanical behavior and failure mechanism of high strength steel frames under the vertical constant loading and horizontal cyclic loading are investigated,and the energy dissipation capacity and ductility of such frames have been analyzed. Based on the finited element calculation results,it showed that the bearing capacity of high strength steel frames under the vertical constant loading and horizontal cyclic loading increased,which also had considerable energy dissipation capacity and seismic performance,but lower ductility. These research works can provide the basis for the further study and engineering application of high strength steel frames.
