This paper discusses the application of a new test procedure for evaluating the dynamic J-integral resistance curve from the load displacement results of a single edge-notched specimen subjected to a drop-weight-tear test, DWTT. Crack growth was monitored by means of a high-speed digital camera capable of capturing 20000 frames per second. The J-value for the specimens was also calculated using a simplified estimation method that relates the total energy absorbed during crack growth and the difference between the ligament areas for two specimens; each of them having a different initial crack length value. The initial experimental results indicate that J-R curves can be accurately measured using this procedure.
