This presentation describes the history of the plain language movement and recent legislation that requires that government agencies produce new content in plain language. The legislation also requires that they convert some existing content into plain language. The presentation defines plain language, and includes samples of before and after plain language conversion (PLC). Governments and other entities in many countries have initiated plain language policies. This presentation focuses on events In the United States and the opportunities that plain language presents to technical writers.
