Cystinosis is a rare genetic disease. The ophthalmic treatment for Cystinosis currently requires administration of eye drops every hour. In an attempt to reduce the frequency of administration and improve the ophthalmic treatment, cysteamine containing ophthalmic gels were prepared and evaluated. The gels displayed weak gel networks, bioadhesive capabilities and first order release was observed. These results offer the possibility of a gel formulation of cysteamine eye drops.
