Silk-Elastinlike Protein Polymers (SELPs) are recombinant polymers investigated as hydrogels for localized viral gene delivery in the treatment of head and neck cancer. SELPs prolong transgene expression in the tumor tissue by controlling the delivery of therapeutic adenoviruses, while reducing toxicity. The present work investigates the ability of SELP to reduce the toxicity of adenovirus-mediated gene directed enzyme-prodrug therapy (GDEPT) in a non-tumor-bearing mouse model.
